Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) recently submitted a revised electoral decree and pledged a new calendar "very soon," maintaining the August 30 first-round general election target despite postponing voter registration in early April amid funding disputes and gang violence controlling swaths of Port-au-Prince. This follows the transitional authorities' late-2025 timetable for polls—the first since 2016—endorsed by the UN Security Council last week as the sole path to constitutional order. Trader consensus implying 55.5% odds against further delay reflects cautious optimism that preparatory setbacks won't derail the core schedule, though escalating insecurity, budget rejections by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's allies, and historical postponements keep the outcome closely contested ahead of the late-2026 vote.
