Trader sentiment on Nicolás Maduro's potential prison sentence from his Southern District of New York narco-terrorism and cocaine importation indictment remains tightly contested, with no prison time at 28% edging 60+ years at 24.5%, reflecting uncertainty in pre-trial detention at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Recent March 26 and April 1 hearings before Judge Alvin Hellerstein denied dismissal motions amid disputes over Venezuelan funding for defense—complicated by U.S. recognition of interim leader Delcy Rodríguez—while affirming the right to counsel, preserving prosecution momentum from cooperating witnesses like Clíver Alcalá. Limited historical success of narcoterrorism convictions, plea deal possibilities, and no trial date set yet sustain the deadlock; a plea announcement, funding ruling, or trial scheduling could decisively shift odds toward conviction or acquittal by the December 2027 resolution deadline.
