The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirms the most recent magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck 100 km ENE of Miyako, Japan, on April 20, 2026, at a shallow depth of 35 km along the Pacific subduction zone, marking the fifth M7.0+ event worldwide this year amid typical Ring of Fire activity. No M7.0+ quakes have occurred in the intervening 11 days, consistent with the global baseline of roughly 15-20 such events annually—about one every 2-3 weeks—driven by tectonic stress accumulation on fault lines. Trader consensus weighs this Poisson-distributed seismicity against the market's deadline, with inherent unpredictability as no reliable short-term forecasts exist. Monitor USGS real-time feeds for aftershocks or emerging clusters that could influence odds.
