The legislation, which requires three additional readings and a final 61-vote majority to pass, moved to the House Committee but stalled by late May as parties negotiated an election date, with ultra-Orthodox factions reportedly aligning closer to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s preference for the original October 27 deadline rather than an earlier September vote. No final readings have occurred as of mid-June, leaving the 25th Knesset intact while the bill remains eligible for revival. Scheduled elections must occur by October 27 regardless, and any earlier date hinges on renewed committee action and plenary approval within the required timeline.
