With over 95% of actas processed by Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) as of late April, Roberto Sánchez Palomino of Juntos por el Perú has opened a lead of more than 24,000 votes over Rafael López Aliaga for second place behind frontrunner Keiko Fujimori in the April 12 first-round presidential election, anchoring trader consensus at 95.5%. Pre-election rural polling surges propelled Sánchez, while delayed counting of remote ballots has steadily widened his margin amid a close initial contest. Final certification, due by mid-May amid procedural disputes, sets up a June 7 runoff; an upset would require extraordinary discrepancies in the remaining 5% of votes or successful legal challenges from López Aliaga's camp.
