Eurozone HICP annual inflation surged to a flash-estimated 3.0% in April 2026, up from 2.6% in March, driven by elevated energy prices amid Middle East geopolitical tensions, positioning the 3.1%+ outcome as trader consensus at 48% implied probability on Polymarket. This uptrend, following 1.9% in February, reflects sticky core inflation at 2.2% and consumer expectations jumping to 4.0% for the next year, outweighing the ECB's March staff projection of 2.6% average for 2026. The ECB held its deposit rate at 2% on April 30, citing anchored long-term expectations despite short-term risks, while Q1 GDP growth stalled at 0.1%, heightening stagflation concerns ahead of May data and the June policy meeting.
