Following Denmark's inconclusive March 24, 2026, snap general election, where Social Democrats secured the most seats at 38 despite a weakened 21.9% vote share, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen remains the formateur tasked by King Frederik X with leading coalition negotiations in the 179-seat Folketing under proportional representation. Her commanding 93.5% implied probability reflects trader consensus on her central role, recent progress in talks with kingmaker Moderates leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen—including a constructive April 27 meeting shifting focus to policy compromises—and reaffirmation of the critical Velfærdsforliget welfare pact by Venstre and Conservatives. Frederiksen recently dismissed blue-bloc or broad centrist alternatives as unviable. Challenges could arise from deadlocks over far-left support or economic sticking points, potentially elevating Rasmussen, though no majority has formed five weeks post-election.
