Trader consensus prices Janez Janša as a commanding 91% favorite to become Slovenia's next prime minister following the March 22, 2026, parliamentary election that yielded a hung National Assembly, with his Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) securing 28 seats just behind Robert Golob's Freedom Movement at 29. Golob's April 20 admission of failed coalition talks opened the path for Janša, whose right-leaning bloc appears best positioned to reach the 46-vote absolute majority threshold. President Nataša Pirc Musar declined to nominate a candidate on April 25, directing lawmakers to propose one within 14 days amid intensifying negotiations. Challenges include stalled talks leading to a relative majority vote or snap election, potentially elevating alternatives like Anže Logar or reviving Golob.
