The Workers' Party (PT) solidified its strategy around President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's reelection bid at its 8th National Congress concluding April 26, 2026, approving a manifesto—personally reviewed by Lula—that emphasizes his leadership without naming a successor amid internal debates over alternatives. This follows the PT executive's April 8 declaration positioning Lula's reelection as the central political tactic, reflecting his eligibility for a fourth nonconsecutive term and leading polls for the October 4 election. Despite a Senate rejection of Lula's Supreme Court nominee on April 29 marking a rare political setback, traders price an 81% yes probability on PT formal nomination by the August 15 party convention deadline, betting on unified party support and absence of contrary signals, though health or scandal risks persist.
