Trader consensus favors a prolonged handshake of 15 seconds or more at 45% for the anticipated Trump-Xi summit in Beijing on May 14-15, reflecting their history of extended greetings, including a nearly 27-second clasp during 2025 trade talks in South Korea that went viral for its firmness. Recent confirmation of the meeting—delayed from late March amid U.S. operations in the Strait of Hormuz—has solidified expectations, boosted by President Trump's April remarks joking that Xi would deliver a "big, fat hug" in appreciation for U.S.-China coordination limiting arms to Iran. Positive diplomatic signals on Taiwan and stability have elevated longer-duration odds like 10-15 seconds (27.5%), while no-handshake pricing remains low at 8% given locked-in summit logistics and personal rapport precedents. Shorter grips or alternatives trail amid ceremonial norms.
