Trader consensus on Polymarket implies an 86% probability that no Chinese company will claim the top AI model by year-end, driven by persistent U.S. leadership on key benchmarks like LMSYS Chatbot Arena and LMArena, where Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 and OpenAI's GPT-5.4 hold the highest Elo ratings around 1500+. Recent Stanford AI Index confirms Chinese models from Alibaba's Qwen, DeepSeek, Baidu's ERNIE 5.1 preview, and Moonshot's Kimi have closed the performance gap to near-parity—excelling in coding and math efficiency at lower costs—but trail U.S. closed-source frontiers by 2-9 months. U.S. chip export restrictions, tightened via April proposals targeting ASML and Nvidia gear, curb Chinese scaling amid America's 23x funding edge. Watch Baidu's Create event for ERNIE full release and DeepSeek V4 benchmarks against looming U.S. model drops.
