Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, detained in a Brooklyn federal jail since his January 3, 2026, capture by US forces amid narcoterrorism conspiracy and drug trafficking charges carrying potential life sentences, faces ongoing pretrial battles that keep trader consensus tightly split. Recent US sanctions relief on April 25 allows Venezuela's interim government under Delcy Rodríguez to fund his defense, bolstering motions to dismiss over irregular rendition without extradition and head-of-state immunity claims. No trial date is set, fueling debate on acquittal risks versus conviction and severe sentencing like 60+ years; rulings on these motions or plea negotiations could sharply diverge the closely matched No prison time (27.5%) and 60+ years (25.5%) odds.
