Ramzan Kadyrov remains head of the Chechen Republic amid persistent speculation over his health and possible succession. Reports from late 2025 and early 2026 described repeated hospitalizations linked to kidney issues and other chronic conditions, prompting Kremlin discussions on replacement candidates such as family members or figures like Magomed Daudov and Apti Alaudinov. Kadyrov has publicly signaled fatigue with the role and a willingness to step aside while also stating his intent to seek nomination for the September 2026 regional elections. Putin holds final authority over any transition, and Moscow prioritizes regional stability during the Ukraine conflict. Trader positioning reflects uncertainty around timing, with no confirmed removal or formal resignation process underway.
