Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Ramzan Kadyrov on April 29, endorsing his bid for re-election as head of the Chechen Republic ahead of the September 2026 vote, signaling strong Kremlin backing despite persistent unconfirmed health rumors. Kadyrov, who has ruled since 2007 with Moscow's support, recently appeared publicly, countering earlier 2026 reports of kidney failure or pancreatic issues that sparked succession speculation. No official resignation or removal announcements have emerged, and his loyalty in deploying Chechen forces underscores his strategic value. Traders assess risks from health uncertainty, potential Kremlin directives, or electoral challenges, with the market resolving on whether he vacates the post by year-end through death, resignation, dismissal, or other means.
