The Supreme Court's April 6 order vacating the D.C. Circuit's 2024 affirmation of Steve Bannon's 2022 contempt of Congress conviction—stemming from his refusal to comply with a Jan. 6 committee subpoena—and remanding the case has opened the door for the Trump administration's Department of Justice to pursue dismissal. Bannon, who served a four-month sentence in 2024, benefits from this procedural reversal prodded by DOJ arguments, reflecting the executive branch's influence over federal prosecutions. Traders weigh the likelihood of swift lower court action resolving the case favorably via dismissal against potential delays or challenges, with no further appeals pending and resolution tied to DOJ motions in the coming weeks.

This market will resolve to “Yes” if Bannon’s 2022 Contempt of Congress conviction is dismissed, overturned, vacated, or otherwise reversed by the listed date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
A qualifying reversal requires that a United States court or other competent legal authority formally nullify the conviction itself. The vacating of appellate rulings, procedural actions toward reconsideration, or other changes which do not themselves result in the nullification of the conviction, will not alone count.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from relevant courts; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
