Israeli ground operations remain focused on southern Lebanon following the March 2026 invasion targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, with forces advancing beyond the Litani River and establishing positions at sites like Beaufort Castle. Recent US-mediated talks produced a June 1 ceasefire agreement under which Israel committed not to strike Beirut's southern suburbs, later extended with plans for pilot security zones controlled by the Lebanese army. Hezbollah rejected the deal on June 4, demanding full Israeli withdrawal, while limited violations including rocket and drone exchanges continue. Diplomatic efforts in Washington and Beirut's internal political pressures shape escalation risks, though no verified ground movements have approached the capital more than 100 km north.
