Former President Rumen Radev's Progressive Bulgaria party won an absolute majority in the April 19, 2026, parliamentary elections—securing around 44% of votes—driving trader consensus to 97% on him as next prime minister after years of instability marked by eight snap elections and caretaker governments. Voter exhaustion from corruption scandals, December 2025 protests that toppled the prior administration, and repeated failed coalition negotiations favored Radev's pledges for stability and anti-oligarch reforms. President Iliyana Yotova holds the mandate power, with the first exploratory talks imminent. Scenarios challenging this include a late scandal, health event, or Radev declining the post, though his parliamentary dominance makes these low-probability.
