President Trump indicated on May 11 he is weighing a restart of Project Freedom, the short-lived U.S. military operation launched May 4 to escort commercial ships through the Iran-disrupted Strait of Hormuz, warning it could expand into a broader military effort dubbed "Project Freedom Plus." Paused after two days amid initial diplomatic progress toward a ceasefire, the initiative now reflects stalled indirect negotiations, with Iran rejecting U.S. proposals and reportedly restoring much of its missile capabilities. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have lifted prior restrictions on U.S. base and airspace access, clearing a path for potential resumption this week. Talks remain on hold pending Trump's China summit with Xi Jinping, ending Friday, after which national security deliberations could prompt an official announcement qualifying for market resolution.
