The Houston Astros have taken the first two games of this AL West series from the Athletics in dominant fashion, winning 5-1 on June 5 behind Isaac Paredes’ three-game homer streak and 13-2 on June 6 with Yordan Alvarez’s grand slam. Both clubs sit near the bottom of the division at 30-34 and 30-36, respectively, with the Athletics on a three-game skid. Sunday’s matchup features Athletics left-hander Gage Jump (1-1, 3.75 ERA) against Astros right-hander Mike Burrows (3-7, 5.66 ERA), while Houston’s lengthy injured list includes multiple starters and the Athletics deal with their own absences. Home-field advantage at Daikin Park and recent offensive momentum favor the Astros, though both lineups remain inconsistent in a tightly packed division race.
