With local elections set for May 7 across 136 English councils contesting over 5,000 councillor seats, recent YouGov MRP polling released April 22 projects major Green Party gains, including potential control of London boroughs like Hackney, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Waltham Forest, amid Labour's declining support on housing and cost-of-living issues. The party's momentum stems from February's Gorton and Denton by-election victory over Labour and Reform UK, plus an April 10 Kent upset defeating Reform, alongside national polls showing Greens at 18-21%—joint-top in some trackers. Campaign launches targeting affordable housing have boosted visibility, though turnout in competitive wards and tactical voting could sway outcomes, informing trader assessments of hundreds of net seat gains.
