This market will resolve to "Yes" if the Trump administration announces that the United States officially recognizes Maria Corina Machado as the leader of Venezuela by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Roles that could qualify for leader of Venezuela status include, but are not limited to, "head of state," "president," or other similar roles that give her primary executive authority in the territory of Venezuela. A qualifying US statement must be direct and unqualified. Conditional, hypothetical, supportive, or implied statements do not count. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the US government and Donald Trump, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Trader consensus reflects the U.S. government's formal recognition of Delcy Rodríguez as Venezuela's sole head of state in a March 2026 federal court filing, following Nicolás Maduro's January capture during U.S. military intervention and her subsequent swearing-in as acting president. This shift prompted diplomatic relations restoration on March 5, sanctions relief for Rodríguez on April 2, and confirmation of "phase one" transition success with demands for electoral guarantees enabling María Corina Machado's participation by April 16. Despite Machado's multiple White House meetings with President Trump and her Nobel Peace Prize status, no official endorsement positions her as current leader, favoring interim stability over opposition installation amid plans for democratic elections later in 2026.
