Both advanced decisively in first-round qualifiers yesterday—Budkov Kjaer defeating Francesco Maestrelli 2-0 sets, Echargui upsetting higher-ranked Aleksandar Kovacevic—ensuring no fatigue from back-to-backs. Absent head-to-head or injury concerns, Budkov Kjaer's 6'3" frame bolsters his serve amid Madrid's high-altitude bounce, while Echargui's clay experience (51% career win rate) adds upset potential in a best-of-three matchup where the winner advances to main draw against ATP top seeds.
