In the Internazionali BNL d'Italia qualifying final on outdoor clay, No. 91 Pablo Carreno Busta faces No. 125 Stan Wawrinka in a battle of 30-something veterans, with the Spaniard holding a clear edge in 2026 form (18-10 overall, 10-3 clay) after a straight-sets win over Martin Damm yesterday. Wawrinka, 41 and in his final season, advanced past Stefano Travaglia but enters with a 6-10 record and recent clay losses in Monte-Carlo and Aix-en-Provence. Wawrinka leads head-to-head 3-1 (2-1 clay), though Carreno Busta won their last clay clash in Bastad 2022; trader consensus weighs Carreno's baseline grinding against Wawrinka's fading power on the slower surface, with mild Rome weather unlikely to intervene.
