The New York Mets hold a 2-0 series lead over the visiting Detroit Tigers after close victories, including a 3-2 walk-off in 10 innings on May 13 at Citi Field, where Juan Soto exited with a right ankle injury joining Francisco Alvarez on the injured list with a knee issue. Tigers rotation decimated by injuries—Tarik Skubal post-elbow surgery (out 4-6 weeks), Casey Mize (thigh), Justin Verlander and others on IL—forced short outings like Jack Flaherty's Game 1 struggle, contributing to their 19-23 record (third AL Central). Mets (16-25, last NL East) struggle offensively but leverage home advantage in Thursday's 1:10 p.m. ET rubber match, with bullpen depth and recent momentum key factors amid both teams' sub-.500 form.
