Llamas Ruiz, a Spaniard thriving on clay, punched through qualifying and upset Ethan Quinn (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) and Corentin Moutet (6-4, 3-6, 7-6) in the main draw over the past 48 hours, building momentum with gritty three-set wins. Medvedev enters after a bye, fresh off a fourth-round run in Madrid—his best clay result this season following a dismal Monte Carlo double bagel to Matteo Berrettini—but his overall clay record remains uneven (around 50% wins in 2026). No head-to-head exists; trader consensus reflects Medvedev's superior rankings, power baseline game, and Rome history against Llamas Ruiz's underdog resilience on the slower Foro Italico surface, with weather and fatigue from Llamas' five matches key variables.
