Diana Shnaider enters the Roland Garros semifinal on strong recent momentum after upsetting world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals with a comeback victory and also defeating Madison Keys earlier in the draw. The left-handed Russian has shown improved clay-court consistency and resilience in extended rallies. Qualifier Maja Chwalinska, ranked No. 114, has produced the tournament’s biggest surprise by winning nine matches in Paris, including upsets of Zheng Qinwen, Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, and Anna Kalinskaya, all on the slow surface that rewards her steady baseline game. The pair’s sole prior meeting dates to a 2022 ITF event won by Shnaider. Both players are seeking their first Grand Slam final appearance in a matchup defined by contrasting paths to the semifinal.
