Lionel Messi’s inclusion in Argentina’s official 26-man 2026 World Cup roster, announced days ago, anchors the overwhelming 97.8% market-implied odds for a “Yes” outcome. The defending champions’ captain has been actively training with the squad in Kansas City ahead of the June kickoff, while coach Lionel Scaloni has publicly endorsed his participation and drawn parallels to iconic final campaigns. At 38, Messi’s consistent club form and emphasis on staying fit enough to contribute meaningfully—without becoming a burden—have solidified trader consensus around this likely last dance on the global stage. A late injury or sudden fitness withdrawal remains the primary realistic upset scenario that could still shift the outcome before the tournament begins.
