Israeli naval forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Crete on April 29-30, seizing over 20 of its 58 vessels and detaining around 175 activists, including high-profile figures, hundreds of miles from Gaza. This preemptive action, consistent with Israel's longstanding enforcement of the Gaza blockade, has halted the flotilla's progress well short of Israeli waters, driving trader consensus to a 70% implied probability on "No" entry by May 31. Organizers departed Barcelona on April 12 amid heightened military vigilance, with prior flotillas similarly thwarted; remaining vessels face formidable barriers from ongoing patrols and diplomatic pressures, though escalation signals or new sailings could shift dynamics.
