Tommy Paul enters this first-round Roland Garros clash as the clear favorite due to his higher ranking near No. 24, proven clay-court results including a 2025 quarterfinal run, and strong baseline game suited to the slow Paris surface. Rinky Hijikata, ranked around No. 98, brings recent clay experience from challengers and qualifying but faces a sizable gap in Grand Slam pedigree and consistency. Paul holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge from a prior hard-court meeting, while his recent form and seeding provide structural advantages in a matchup where extended rallies and physical endurance often decide outcomes on clay.
