This Vitality Blast South Group opener pits Essex Eagles at home against Sussex Sharks at Chelmsford on May 22, marking the start of the 2026 campaign for both sides after the ECB released the reduced 12-match group schedule. Essex enter with solid recent domestic form and home advantage in T20 conditions, while Sussex look to leverage their pace attack and recent county performances. Key factors include confirmed squad availability, with no major injury concerns reported from official sources, and the typical emphasis on power-hitting and death bowling in early-season fixtures. Trader consensus reflects these situational edges alongside historical head-to-head trends in short-format cricket.
