No. 24 seed Leylah Fernandez carries momentum into her third-round clash with No. 15 seed Iva Jovic at the Mutua Madrid Open on clay, fresh off a Stuttgart quarterfinal run where she mounted comebacks against Zeynep Sonmez (from 1-5 down in the decider) and nearly upset Elena Rybakina, saving match points before falling 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(6). Fernandez cruised 6-3, 6-2 over Julia Grabher in round two. Jovic, the 18-year-old American ranked No. 16, beat Magda Linette 6-4, 6-1 but enters on a skid, losing four of her last five matches including recent defeats to top players. First head-to-head favors experience on the high-bouncing clay surface, with no reported injuries; trader consensus weighs Jovic's ranking against Fernandez's recent grit and clay affinity in this competitive matchup.
