The iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY) recently hit a 52-week high near $164, propelled by record Q1 2026 earnings from semiconductor leaders Samsung Electronics (KRW 133.9 trillion revenue, KRW 57.2 trillion operating profit) and SK Hynix, amid explosive AI-driven memory chip demand that has fueled a 130% one-year gain and 50% year-to-date Kospi surge. This export-heavy benchmark reflects South Korea's tech upcycle resilience despite steady Bank of Korea base rate at 2.50%, with elevated trading volumes signaling strong trader consensus on momentum continuation. Key risks include U.S. tariff signals and global risk appetite; watch industrial output data and U.S. nonfarm payrolls next week for volatility around EWY price thresholds.
