South Korea's semiconductor-led rally has propelled the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF (EWY) to recent closes near 197.45, with a June 1 peak of 217.76 and YTD gains exceeding 100%, reflecting robust exports of AI-related memory chips from Samsung and SK Hynix. First-quarter 2026 GDP expanded 1.7% quarter-over-quarter, outpacing estimates and underscoring export strength that offsets softer domestic demand. Market-implied odds for June 2026 price thresholds incorporate this momentum alongside volatility from global trade uncertainties and potential rate paths, with traders monitoring upcoming export data and equity flows into the sector for any late-month shifts before resolution.
