Boston Red Sox (12-18, AL East) and Detroit Tigers (15-15, leading AL Central) recently split a four-game series 2-2 at Fenway Park from April 17-20, featuring tight pitching duels like Tarik Skubal's 10-strikeout gem and high-scoring comebacks. Red Sox rotation hit hard by Sonny Gray's 15-day IL placement (right hamstring strain, April 21) after his Patriots' Day outing, joining Kutter Crawford (wrist surgery recovery); Tigers missing Justin Verlander (hip inflammation, 15-day IL since April 4) and Parker Meadows (60-day IL, arm surgery). Both bullpens strained amid early-season injuries, with Tigers recalling arms like Brenan Hanifee. Upcoming factors include rest advantages, home/away splits for the next clash around May 4, and weather at Fenway or Comerica, underscoring a competitive trader consensus on pitching depth and recent momentum.
