Karen Khachanov's status as the #13 seed and world #15 against #54 Botic van de Zandschulp drives trader consensus to a 58.5% implied probability on the Rome clay, reflecting his ranking edge and baseline power suited to extended rallies. Both conserved energy reaching this Round of 32 matchup after opponents Jiri Lehecka and Aleksandar Kovacevic retired in the second set of R64 ties—Khachanov up a set and break, van de Zandschulp forcing a third-set tiebreak. Their head-to-head stands 1-1; van de Zandschulp rides Bucharest clay semis momentum and a straight-sets R128 win over Alexandre Muller, but Khachanov's Masters 1000 pedigree on clay outweighs recent early exits in Madrid and Monte-Carlo. No injury concerns reported.
