Alexander Zverev enters the Madrid Open semifinals as the clear favorite against surging qualifier Alexander Blockx, bolstered by his two prior titles at the ATP Masters 1000 clay event and a perfect 3-0 record in prior semis here, highlighted by yesterday's straight-sets quarterfinal win over No. 10 seed Flavio Cobolli. The 21-year-old Belgian Blockx, ranked No. 69 with a 10-2 clay record in 2026, has stunned with upsets over Felix Auger-Aliassime and defending champion Casper Ruud (6-4, 6-4) in the quarters, showcasing powerful serving and composure in his first Masters 1000 semifinal. No head-to-head exists, but Zverev's experience tempers Blockx's momentum amid high-altitude conditions favoring big hitters, though the German's recent unspecified injury hints add minor uncertainty ahead of Friday's evening clash on Manolo Santana court.
