Second-seeded Alexander Zverev advanced to his fifth straight ATP Masters 1000 semifinal at the Madrid Open with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Flavio Cobolli yesterday, building on his pedigree as a two-time champion on the high-altitude clay despite earlier physical discomfort voiced after a grinder against Terence Atmane. Unseeded 21-year-old Belgian Alexander Blockx, ranked No. 69, earned his maiden ATP semifinal—and first tour-level clay wins—via upsets over fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and defending champion Casper Ruud in the quarters, showcasing breakout power from the baseline. No head-to-head exists, pitting Blockx's tournament momentum against Zverev's superior rankings, surface history, and experience in high-stakes clay matches.
