McCartney Kessler enters the first-round grass-court matchup at the 2026 Nottingham Open as the clear market favorite, driven by her No. 39 ranking, status as the 2025 champion on this surface, and stronger recent results on the faster courts. The American arrives off a three-set loss to Karolina Pliskova in London but maintains a solid 14-12 record for the season while showcasing proven grass-court form from her title run that included victories over top seeds. Katie Volynets, ranked No. 101 with a 19-15 ledger, faces a significant step up in competition on a surface where her baseline-oriented game has historically yielded fewer breakthroughs against higher-ranked opponents. Head-to-head history and surface-specific adjustments further tilt trader sentiment toward Kessler, though grass-court volatility and any late fitness updates remain the primary variables that could influence implied probabilities.
