Elena Rybakina, world No. 2 and fresh off her first clay-court title at Stuttgart last week, enters the Madrid Open second round with a perfect 2-0 head-to-head record over Gabriela Ruse, including a straight-sets Wimbledon win in 2024. The Kazakh's powerful baseline game suits the high-altitude clay at Manolo Santana stadium, though she noted the conditions as challenging ahead of her opener after a first-round bye. Ruse, ranked No. 71 with a 12-9 record this year, advanced via a gritty three-set comeback over Antonia Ruzic two days ago, showcasing resilience but facing a steep test against Rybakina's superior serve and rankings edge. No injury concerns reported for either, with trader consensus reflecting Rybakina's form and matchup dominance on this faster clay surface.
