In the Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole WTA 250 semifinals on indoor clay, No. 2 seed Sorana Cirstea (world No. 26, 19-6 in 2026) withdrew due to injury just hours before her matchup against qualifier Veronika Podrez (No. 209, 17-7 YTD), advancing the 19-year-old Ukrainian via walkover to her first WTA final on tour debut. Podrez built momentum with straight-set wins over Sloane Stephens (6-2, 6-1), No. 7 Elisabetta Cocciaretto (7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4), and Katie Boulter (6-4, 6-1), firing 28 winners to 11 unforced errors in her quarterfinal upset. Cirstea, in strong clay form (5-1 YTD), had progressed past Fiona Ferro in three sets, Xiyu Wang via retirement, and Anna Bondar (7-6(7), 6-2). Their first head-to-head highlights experience versus breakout potential, now resolved without play.
