Sofia Kenin enters the Madrid Open first-round clash against Ashlyn Krueger as the higher-ranked American at No. 68 versus No. 108, with her veteran clay-court prowess—highlighted by a 2020 Roland Garros semifinal run—bolstering trader consensus on the red clay at Manolo Santana Stadium. Krueger holds a 2-1 head-to-head edge, including a three-set win over Kenin at the 2025 US Open, but recent form tilts toward Kenin, who reached the Charleston third round last week before falling to Iva Jovic, while Krueger exited early in Australian Open qualifiers. No reported injuries or withdrawals shape this competitive matchup, where Kenin's serve efficiency and return game could exploit Krueger's inconsistencies on the slower surface, amid mild Madrid weather forecasts.
