In the WTA 125 Huzhou Open semifinals on outdoor clay, third-seeded Katarzyna Kawa (No. 163) faces fifth-seeded Hanyu Guo (No. 173) with no prior head-to-head. Kawa, a 33-year-old Polish veteran with a career 60% clay win rate, advanced via straight-set wins over Carol Zhao and Alevtina Ibragimova before rallying past Varvara Panshina 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals yesterday. Home favorite Guo, 27, impressed with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 quarterfinal rout of Rada Zolotareva after straight-set victories over Dalila Jakupovic and Diletta Cherubini, leveraging strong baseline play and crowd support. Recent form favors neither decisively amid close rankings and tournament momentum, with potential fatigue from short turnarounds a factor.
