Noemi Basiletti, the 20-year-old Italian qualifier ranked No. 427, faces a stern test against No. 88 Ajla Tomljanovic in the Internazionali BNL d'Italia first round on outdoor clay, with their match suspended yesterday at 5-3 in Basiletti's favor in the opening set due to rain and set to resume today amid lingering weather risks. Basiletti enters with strong 2026 form (14-9 overall, 8-5 clay), boosted by qualifying wins over Emiliana Arango and others, plus home-crowd support at Foro Italico, marking her new career-high live ranking of No. 373. Tomljanovic, a 32-year-old lucky loser with career clay record of 125-93, struggles recently (9-10 YTD, 1-4 clay) but holds superior experience and power in this first head-to-head matchup. Upset potential rises with Basiletti's momentum, though Tomljanovic's pedigree favors a comeback.
