Paula Badosa, the Spanish wild card and former World No. 2, takes on Austria's Julia Grabher in the Mutua Madrid Open first-round clash on high-altitude clay. Badosa, ranked No. 103 after chronic back pain and a torn labrum hampered her 2025-26 season, notched key Charleston wins over Kayla Day and Maria Sakkari last week before a quarterfinal exit, fueling her comeback narrative amid home-crowd support and past Madrid quarterfinal (2024). Grabher, No. 99 with a 4-10 record this year including a recent Linz defeat, holds a steadier but unspectacular clay game. Badosa leads head-to-head 1-0 from a 2016 clay win; trader consensus reflects Badosa's power edge and motivation despite lingering fitness questions.
