This market will resolve to “Yes” if the total number of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews that cause a stoppage in play during the 2026 FIFA World Cup equals or exceeds the listed number. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Only VAR reviews that cause a stoppage in play are counted. A review that does not stop play does not count. If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is shortened, truncated, or ends early for any reason, the outcome shall be determined using available official data for completed matches. If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or the exact total cannot be determined within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA and official broadcast partners; however, a consensus of credible reporting (including Opta data) may also be used.FIFA and IFAB have approved expanded VAR protocols specifically for the 2026 World Cup, adding reviews for incorrectly awarded corner kicks (provided they do not delay restarts), second yellow cards, and certain pre-set-piece fouls with direct impact on goals or penalties. Upgraded technology including AI-assisted offside tools and 3D tracking is intended to shorten decision times, while anti-time-wasting measures such as 10-second substitutions and bans on tactical goalkeeper discussions aim to maintain game flow. Corner kicks occur frequently in matches, potentially increasing check volume, yet officials are instructed to limit interventions to clear, immediate errors. The tournament opens amid these changes, with a larger VAR team available to handle the new scope across all fixtures.
