The April 2026 federal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center on 11 counts of wire fraud, false statements, and money laundering conspiracy—tied to its former paid-informant program—has produced closely balanced trader views on a 2026 conviction. SPLC entered a not guilty plea and filed a motion to dismiss alleging vindictive prosecution linked to administration statements, while a June superseding indictment added details without new charges. Ongoing pretrial proceedings, including motions hearings and the scheduled October trial in Alabama federal court, introduce procedural uncertainty. Outcomes could shift with rulings on dismissal claims, presentation of donor-fund evidence at trial, or any negotiated resolution before year-end.
