The Tampa Bay Rays hold a clear edge in this interleague matchup, sitting at 40-27 and near the top of the AL East while the Washington Nationals stand at 36-35 in the NL East. The Rays benefit from stronger overall team health and home-field advantage at Tropicana Field. Nationals starters face significant roster strain, with Jake Irvin on the 15-day IL for a shoulder issue alongside longer-term absences for DJ Herz (post-Tommy John), Trevor Williams, and Josiah Gray, all limiting rotation depth and bullpen reliability. Recent form shows the Rays maintaining competitive play despite minor setbacks, whereas the Nationals rely on position-player contributions amid pitching uncertainty heading into the June series.
