The St. Louis Cardinals (38-30) enter the interleague series at Kauffman Stadium holding second place in the NL Central, four games behind Milwaukee, while the Kansas City Royals (28-43) sit fifth in the AL Central, more than 10 games out. Recent Cardinals wins, including a 9-6 victory over Minnesota, contrast with the Royals’ four-game losing streak and ongoing struggles at the plate and in run prevention. Multiple Royals starters and relievers, including Cole Ragans, Kris Bubic, Seth Lugo, and Carlos Estévez, remain on the injured list with elbow, shoulder, or concussion issues, thinning the pitching staff ahead of the June 18-21 games. The Cardinals also list several injured pitchers but maintain a deeper overall roster and stronger recent form. Home-field advantage for Kansas City and potential lineup tweaks around day-to-day players like Vinnie Pasquantino represent the main variables that could influence individual game outcomes in the series.
