The Kansas City Royals enter the three-game series at Nationals Park with a sub-.400 record and sit fifth in the AL Central, while the Washington Nationals hold a .500-plus mark and third place in the NL East. Washington’s home stand follows a series against the Mariners and features favorable pitching matchups, though the club continues managing multiple long-term pitcher injuries on the 60-day IL. Kansas City faces its own roster challenges, including day-to-day status for first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino and several starting pitchers on the injured list, limiting rotation depth. Recent form shows the Nationals competitive at home, while the Royals have struggled on the road. Weather at Nationals Park appears mild for the opener, with limited precipitation expected.
