Lorenzo Sonego faces qualifier Ignacio Buse in a competitive first-round matchup at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia on clay, where both players enter with similar ATP rankings around 62 and no prior head-to-head. Sonego, a seasoned Italian clay courter with strong Rome history, benefits from home crowd support but arrives rusty after a three-month right wrist injury layoff, posting a 1-2 clay record lately including a first-round Cagliari Challenger loss to Mattia Bellucci on April 29. Buse, the 22-year-old Peruvian riser off a career-high No. 58, carries momentum from a quarterfinal run at the Aix-en-Provence Challenger last week despite recent Masters losses in Madrid and Monte Carlo qualifying. Expect a baseline grind testing endurance and topspin adaptation on the slow Foro Italico surface.
