Lorenzo Sonego enters the Stuttgart Open qualifying round as the clear favorite against Mert Alkaya on grass, with his ATP ranking of 70 and extensive experience contrasting sharply with the Turkish player's No. 321 position and limited professional exposure. Sonego, a right-hander with a strong serve and baseline game suited to the surface, has navigated a 2026 season marked by earlier wrist concerns but recent match play, including Grand Slam appearances. Alkaya, a 25-year-old making early ATP steps, brings solid junior and ITF credentials but faces a significant step up in competition. Head-to-head records are nonexistent, and the fast grass conditions typically amplify the higher-ranked player's advantages in this first-round qualifier.
